The Building Energy Codes Program (BECP) tracks energy codes at the state level and provides state specific energy code resources, such as fact sheets, cost-effectiveness analyses, compliance reports, and primary contact information. To make this information readily available, we developed a Residential and Commercial State Energy Code Portal that provides these state resources in one place. Simply click the Residential and Commercial status maps below to access the state portals. Once at the portal, click on the state of interest to access the BECP state page and other relevant state resources.
Status of State Energy Code Adoption
State energy code adoption is assessed based on a quantitative analysis of energy savings impacts within a given state. This approach analyzes the energy use of a state base code and amendments through DOE’s energy modeling framework to determine the overall state energy index. Then, each state index is compared to the index of the last six national model energy codes to characterize each state at a specific code equivalency.
