Many organizations involved in building codes and standards and building ratings have also developed extensive websites related to remote inspections of all sorts. Several of the most prominent ones are featured below.
International Code Council (ICC)
The ICC has an extensive website related to their remote inspection activities. While the information is focused under the coronavirus response center, it is applicable for any organization looking to perform remote inspections. ICC provides complete remote inspection software program. The ICC and RESNET are collaborating on the development of an ANSI standard for remote virtual inspections. ICC also developed a resource outlining Recommended Practices for Remote Virtual Inspections (RVI) that addresses permitting, planning, and remote inspections. DOE and ICC collaborated on an RVI protocol and checklist for inspections of the residential provisions of the 2018 and 2021 IECC.
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
NFPA has a series of resources for remote video inspections, including a white paper on how to conduct remote video inspection, a standard for Remote Inspections (NFPA 915), and a podcast on the “Remote Inspection Revolution”, all available at NFPA’s “NFPA 915: News” link.
ASHRAE
ASHRAE has a series of technical resources focused on coronavirus response. The focus is less on remote inspections and more on the design issues associated with coronavirus and how to ensure that buildings are operated safely. The infographic on coronavirus provides clickable links to additional resources.
Residential Network (RESNET)
RESNET has a series of resources related to COVID-19. Included in these resources are instructions on dealing with remote QA field observations. (See also ICC/RESNET collaboration on an ANSI standard for remote virtual inspections under ICC.)
Regional Energy Efficiency Organizations (REEOs)
Through DOE BECP funding, the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) and Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) developed a technical brief outlining the challenges and opportunities of RVI. This technical brief is informed by independent research, interviews with industry professionals, and a collaborative survey effort.
